How old is your current hardware config?
I'm going on close to 3 years now I think. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with how well this thing still runs things like the LoTR online game - I'm playing it on my 32" samsung with most of the details on high, AA at 2x, etc. and it runs very well.
Running an AMD 64 3500+ (2.2 ghz)
that old BFG tech Geforce 6800 GT overclocked and a measly gig of ram.
And a asus motherboard.
This is about the longest I've gone without upgrading, but there's nothing on the gaming horizon PC-only that makes me want to.
You?

Last upgrade (not counting monitors or firewire cards) was last August when I grabbed a 250GB SATA-II.
Asus P5P800 SE
Intel Pentium D 805 (running at 3.2GHz)
GeForce 6600GT overclocked
2x512 DDR RAM
This thing still runs the current games perfectly which is what it's meant for. I think my bottleneck at the moment is the low graphics memory in my 6600GT (128MB) and the RAM, but I'm planning a huge upgrade before Christmas.
I need Gears of War for PC on launch date

Laptop is a HP nc4010 so about 3 years.
Desktop is a 3200+/1Gb/6600GT so about 2 years.
They're both holding up extremely well. I don't use the desktop for much cutting edge gaming and I don't load the laptop with crapware so it all works out.
I'm actually really close to 100% happy with my PC setups at the moment.

I hate my current setup.
AMD 3200+
1 Gig of ram
Geforce 6800 128mb AGP
I want to upgrade so badly, but I dont have the funds at the moment. I hate playing games on low quality, when I know I could be getting more out of it if it was on high quality. I tried to play Supreme Commander and my ass was raped. The game doesnt even look that fantastic, but it just goes to show how slow my pc is currently.
Direct X 10 looks like shit compared to its performance decrease over DX9. For now, I'm just blaming it on the drivers and current hardware. So even if I had the money, I don't think I'd upgrade right now anyways, even though I want to.

I plan on upgrading soon, I actually find myself running out of USB bandwidth, stupid fucking USB headphones i'm borrowing from my friend + all my other usb shit.
your upgrade could be as simple as getting a PCI USB card, that way it has its own controller and take away form the PCI banwith.

i got my current setup about a year ago and havn't touched a single thing in it. i rarely play PC games anymore and instead use my computer more for multimedia things like music production. my next "upgrade" will most likely be a macbook so i can work on my projects anywhere i want. plus those LED screens are sexy
