Newb in Quake (3 Arena ?)...

Post by Asuka »

Hi, everybody,
I apologize if my english is not "perfect", I'm French and I'm 16 Years Old. I'll do the best I can. :sly:
I think to buy the Quake serie on Steam, I've tried Q3A on the past (I bought it for MAC), but I was only 7 years old.
I'm coming here because I'm looking for advices (and because all french forum that I've found are 'dead'), What I've to do, or not to do, What is the best mod...
I'm interested by Jumping, and other things like that, but I love DM also.

Can I have some advice ? Which server I have to choose ?

Thanks you, :tear:

PS : If something is incomprehensible, tell me what ! :D

it would be better if you posted in that section as you would recieve more help than in here, as the inhabitants of this forum suffer from small dick and penis envy syndrome.

/me insert's the shinny new and improved award winning "Helpful member of the month to new member standard welcome text" ....

Hi New Member :)

Welcome to the forums. First thing you will need to do is read up on the FAQ threads at the top of the forums and make sure your legit copy of the game is all patched up with the latest patches etc, so you are ready to rock and roll. Get yourself a thirdparty game server browser as well as the ingame one for Q3 is and always has been a waste of space unless you are using it for a local lan connection. It's really important to learn to use the FAQ's here and the search feature of the forum before posting a question that's probably been asked a thousand times before. People round here can get a little touchy about that .

Quake 3 is a much more purer (purer does not mean better, they are different games) in terms of FPS gameplay than the other FPS games. So expect to spend some time learning the finer details of gameplay. Strafe jumping and circle jumping, map and item control should become second nature to you if you are to even think of competeing.

After 9 years the players left playing are almost all seasoned vets and have absolutely no trouble whupping Nightmare bots like they are the lowest standard of play. So expect to get owned a lot yourself to start with, and don't go accusing people of cheating, if you haven't seen quake movement in full swing you're going to be in for a big shock. I'd suggest you download some quake 3 movies from ownage.com to see just how fast movement in this game really is. Then, if you can cut it and last the distance, then you might be able to own some players yourself.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions and I'll try to help or point you in the right direction.

If your interested in jumping and like DM I suggest you look up the mods Challenge Promode, Rocket Arena 3 and defrag.

Have Fun :)

Wow, good reply ^^' !
I'll never accusing somebody of cheating, if somebody he's good, it's just a good reason to play 'harder'. :D
And I've seen some "trickz" : I've looked somes video like French Frog and Mozaik by Neillithan.
So, thanks you for your advice ! :q3:

PS : Sorry if I've posted on the wrong forum !

No problem and your English is like a million times better than my French which is almost non-existant.

I corrected your spelling and grammar to help you and asked you a question
I would suggest you look at Quake Wars instead which has many active forums and servers and a better present day playing experience for the $$$.

There used to be a lot of French Quake 3 and Wolfenstein Enemy Territory servers is the past, but they seem to have surrendered. :)
