That was good. He gets into it. The Angus Young of drummers.surgeon62 wrote:With HEAVY bias, I have to put my vote in for Shawn Pelton. He's the current drummer for the Saturday Night Live band.

Pfft. I'm one of the world's biggest Zeppelin fans, but Bonham was just good, not great. Bonzo's Montreux was probably his tour de force, and I'd consider that an average piece for Peart. Bonzo's big appeal was the fact that he was a nutroll, like Keith Moon.DRuM wrote:It's a close call but I think more people would cite bonham for that honour.Nightshade wrote:Neil Peart is probably the greatest rock drummer/percussionist of all time. If you think otherwise it's pretty obvious you fellate donkeys.

You're right, those guys definitely became popular for their 'rock 'n rollness'. And I never really liked Moons playing much. Bonham definitely wasn't technically as good as peart. But zeppelin were pioneers and bonham was quite inventive in his day. For that and for being one of the first well known drummers in rock history, he'll always get huge accolades. Go to any drum forum and you'll see bonham and moon talked about more than any other drummer. Which kind of bugs me since there have always been technically better skilled drummers than him. Ginger Baker was one of my favourites years ago.Nightshade wrote: Pfft. I'm one of the world's biggest Zeppelin fans, but Bonham was just good, not great. The really important things though about bonham were firstly his sound and secondly his feel. To me, peart lacks the feel that bonham possessed. But having said that, I haven't listened to a lot of Rush. But bonham's sound is legendary. There are thousands and thousands of drummers today still looking to get the elusive big sound and tone out of their drums that he got, particularly the kick drum, and it's surprisingly difficult, even if they do go out and buy the same massive bass drum he had.
