I do. He's amazing and I love what he does. But you know, there has been a surfeit of gospel style drummers recently all equally as good and even better. Oh don't get me started, I'd happily post video clips all day.Big Kahuna Burger wrote:drum you know John Blackwell?

Not being an old jazzer like most of you lot, I like Dave Grohl. Out of the three offered, I'd take Bonzo any day 'cos his sound and feel were great plus he played on decent songs rather than prog drivel like rush.
Re: Bonham, Pert, Collins?

I like Dave Grohl well enough as a drummer, prefer him as lead for the Foo Fighters, but I have to point out your idiocy for not liking Rush. Poor show Geebs.Geebs wrote:Not being an old jazzer like most of you lot, I like Dave Grohl. I'd be remiss if I didn't give Alex Van Halen props here. Always thought he was fantastic, if not exactly groundbreaking.
Re: Bonham, Pert, Collins?
I tried to like rush, honestly I did. Just couldn't in the end. I still maintain grohl's greatness as a drummer on the basis of the amazing stuff he did with qotsa and the Dave Grohl Fill. Oh, Stephen Drozd is great too

I fail to see how a musician can not like one of the world's preeminent rock bands. They're absolutely fucking amazing, brilliant lyrics, fantastic musical ability from all three of them, they're the total package. Damn, what's not to like? What Rush have you listened to? Signals is excellent, as is Moving Pictures. For true classic Rush, give Fly By Night or 2112 a go.

Re: Bonham, Pert, Collins?
Well, NS, some people find it really difficult to getting into all the mixed meter, the different-sounding harmonies, just the perceived complexity of it all.
Not that the common listener can even identify what's happening to make their music sound so "different from everyone else." It's just harder to digest than what a lot of people want to hear; just easy-listening radio tunes. Everything in 4-4, the same, tired, old chord progressions. Cute stuff.
I admire and respect Rush, sure, and I like some of their songs. Personally, I can't get into Geddy's voice. That's something that really turns me off from them.

Re: Bonham, Pert, Collins?
I liked. It ain't easy soloing in 7 and keeping it all clean.
Re: Bonham, Pert, Collins?
I dropped some Bosephus toward the beginning of this thread. The clip doesn't quite reach when I saw VH live...with Dave, but it's an excellent example of Alex's ability.Nightshade wrote:I'd be remiss if I didn't give Alex Van Halen props here. Fantastic! THAT's why I love RUSH. Also,

Re: Bonham, Pert, Collins?
ok, I'll give it another go. I think my problem with them is the same problem I have with bands like Muse - great technique which tends to (IMO) overpower the songwritingNightshade wrote:I fail to see how a musician can not like one of the world's preeminent rock bands. Re: Bonham, Pert, Collins?
As have I, but still, most listeners have no idea what's going on, they're just like, "oh you can't bob your head to this one very easily, therefore it's not fun. Sooo I'm not listening to it."
That's just how it goes with most people.

Re: Bonham, Pert, Collins?
I would have to agree with what has been said about Bonham's sound and Peart's technical abilities. Both are incredible drummers who sort paved the way. In my opinion Rush is easily one of the greatest 3 man bands of all time, they are all incredibly skilled at what they do. I have never had the chance to see them live but since they extended their Snakes and Arrows tour I managed to get tickets to see them in May and im sure its gonna be fucking awesome.
