Firefox 3
Firefox 3
Feels snappier, looks better, so far so good (on my Mac). The memory print is also smaller than the previous versions.
I'm using Safari and Camino, sometimes Flock, but this Firefox version might be a good deal.
Of course, for Windows there's no better browser.

Re: Firefox 3
when people use to say a certain browser or whatever is faster than another, i always thought it was so marginal that it didn't really matter much.
but firefox 3.0 really is that much faster. it's pretty cool.

I cant get used to the new layout, but yeah its much better.

I feel the same here and it's only been a couple of days.saturn wrote:Feels snappier, looks better, so far so good (on my Mac). The memory print is also smaller than the previous versions.

EDIT got some figures, snatched from another forum, don't know what date/time it was taken, prolly more now

http://www.spreadfirefox.com/en-US/worldrecord
Total Downloads
11,013,861
Total Downloads on download day was 8.8 but the counter still continues.

Doesn't take long to get used to it. Mine looks almost like FF2. I've been using it for 4 months or so and been quite happy with it.o'dium wrote:I cant get used to the new layout, but yeah its much better.
Re: Firefox 3
What the shit, I just installed it and it killed 6 months' worth of bookmarks. And since this version actually installs itself over the old one, I can't think of a way to get them back...

Re: Firefox 3
It wasn't there, but I did find the backups. So I only lost 3 bookmarks from today, but I still remember them.

Re: Firefox 3
I'm liking it, especially the speed and better memory management. It looks a lot more modern too.

That's nice, counter is reaching 14 million now. I've been installing it on work PCs in the hospitals and silently moving the IE icon to the thrashbin.

Yes it really bugs me that sometimes I hit a link and it brings up my other (non default) browser

Like those email links that try and open Outlook when I don't have it installed?

You can get it to point to other programs like Thunderbird rather easily or even web mails with a little tweaking.Whiskey 7 wrote:Like those email links that try and open Outlook when I don't have it installed?

For webmail, it's a little harder. Major webmail hosts are supposed to register for support (Yahoo's fixing support on their end, for example), but since it's brand new, most webmail hosts haven't implemented it fully:
You can add it to the list manually but there isn't an easy way to do this just yet.mozillazine wrote:Firefox 3 also introduces support for Web protocol handlers, allowing protocols such as mailto (used in email address links) to be handled by a website rather than an installed application. Websites have to register before users can set them up as protocol handlers but Firefox 3 supports some popular services (such as Yahoo! Mail for mailto and 30 Boxes for webcal) out of the box.
Follow these instructions for adding gmail to your webhandler.

There's still yet to be a download from Svalbard and Jan Mayen (of which I've never even heard of before)

Close; I use a Mediterranean mountain goat disguised as a womble, 4 tins of oxtail soup and cross dressing apricot called Harold.obsidian wrote:... a piece of cardboard, string, crayons and his imagination?
