something is on your computer that YOU didn't purposely install and is obviously giving you grief with popups and the like. how is your computer NOT compromised?

Windows XP SP2 blocking tool expires Tuesday

A special tool that blocks the download of Service Pack 2 (SP2) on Windows XP PCs will expire Tuesday, ending the last SP2 respite for users who rely on the Automatic Updates feature in Windows to keep their systems up to date.

All you have to do is set it to ask first before downloading and installing anything.

As Jugg said, the security centre is SP2 only. You also just had a ton of trojans and spyware on that system. It's been owned in every way a system can be.

first i installed ZA, then XP updates, Avast, then other programs that i know dont have any spyware/malware/u name it..

those are the ONLY 2 popups i get, and it gets annoying with the bigger one especially when playing Q3

I've seen the security centre icons on a non-sp2 machine as well.

I've not taken the time to investigate it further, either, but I've seen it.

System properties still reporting SP1.

left clicking / right clicking on the icon only makes the icon disappear, same goes for the other popup, clicking yes/no does nothing but close the popup.

the only thing i can say is to reinstall, get patched, slap your firewall/antivirus on, then let her sit and see if you get the "dreaded red shield" again. i'm at a loss bro.

Sorry man, I must have missed it. SP2 is on both the networks I run and there have been no issues. I rolled it out about a week after release. Also, 2003 Server SP1 got rolled out last week without incident. Are you still testing? PM me if you have any questions on it.

On another note this thread has become pretty blatant about the warezed OS. Sorry gents, its getting locked.
