Re: Avatar
is gone with the wind really that good? or was it moreso one of those things that's like, "yeah it's good, but it came out in the right place at the right time". i know jack all about cinema history but i can't help but wonder if being a popular book being turned silver screen at the time helped push a lot of those sales.

Re: Avatar
Very true Stu...we have a lot more films now that contend with each other.
Re: Avatar
on that list...Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs came out 2 years before gone with the wind and made just 14 million less in actual sales, but the adjusted for inflation figure is 700 million less...hows that work?...Fender wrote:everyone forgets about inflation

Re: Avatar
Yeah, something with the math seems a bit funky. They've compensated for inflation, but also done something else which I don't fully understand.
Re: Avatar
this was on the sidebar:
Most pre-1980 pictures achieved their totals through multiple releases, especially Disney animated features which made much of their totals in the past few decades belying their original release dates in terms of adjustment. For example, Snow White has made $118,328,683 of its unadjusted $184,925,486 total since 1983.

I got banned for a week, and sulked for a month. You'd think that I wouldn't immediately start trolling GD again...
