The videos look kind of Devil-May-Cry-With-A-Sense-Of-Humour-Bypass.

There is button mashing, but it is much more fluid once you learn a few basic techniques that you'll likely stick with for most of the game. It becomes much more than button mashing as you progress, especially boss fights. As for the videos being 'devil may cry-ish' - they have the polished look, but they aren't the anime-faggotry that pervades games like DMC, Final Fantasy, even Metal Gear at times. A good variety of weapons, each with their own unique combinations, etc., also helps break up the button mashing monotony. Awesome environments, huge battles (in the first two at least), good storyline and voice acting, even NIPS from time to time...it's great stuff.

Yowza, this game is insane

First off, if you've played the demo, the final game looks and plays like 10 times better. I just got past Hades and it's every bit as good as I was expecting, if not better.

Yeah, it seems like a great series but unfortunately a PS3 isn't anywhere in my near future. Its really too bad its an exclusive.

No. The first 16 hours are utter wank. After that its one of the best games this gen.

Although, nobody should have to sit through 16 hours (2-3 normal games worth) content before a game gets good. But you can't say anything after when Hope finally confronts Snow is bad... You DID play it all the way through, right ;)
What makes it go from shit to the best game after 16 hours? Just the way the story comes together?

A life. Get one.
No shit.

How would play through 16 hours of shit gameplay anyways? Reminds me of that whiny retard on YouTube who played a game for 17 hours straight and hated every second of it....for 17 hours straight.

It's interesting that we'd differ in opinion so much here because I really do hate most 'mashing' games - or at least never really am able to figure them out (like any of the fighting games where you press X,X,A,A,B,halfcircleleft,LB,RB to do a goddamned dragon kick or something). This game, while involving really rapid fighting with lots of enemies, has never struck me as boring and mindless mashing because I'd figure out a few simple combos and use them most of the time - making everything feel fast and fluid - one of my favorite aspects of the game is how rapid but smooth the combat can be when done right.

Along those same lines, I don't see how people were calling Mass Effect 2 'short' or finishing every last aspect of it so quickly and still maintaining productive professional or personal lives. If a game required around 50 hours to complete everything in it at 100%, thats going to last me a couple months most likely - at least one month to be sure. I am not sure I'd finish faster even if I had the spare time to do so...

Are we talking about o'dium here? He's the kind of obsessed fagg0t that blasted through Mass Effect in...like...one sitting.

Same here. I'm currently playing through Mass Effect 2 and it's taken me several weeks to even get to the point of recruiting my last teammate...let alone the 40 hours of gameplay that comes after that. I'm sure o'dium recruited his whole team and did all their loyalty missions before he got up for his first piss.

Now that I've played this one a bit more, there is very little mindless mashing. With a few simple combos you can do things like grab one enemy and use him as a battering ram, bowling over others and then tossing his carcass. You hit an airborne enemy, pull yourself up to him quickly, throw him off the ground, grab him as he bounces up, spike him again, and then finish him off. Can be very graceful and brutal at the same time once you learn it.

I'm in the same boat. I am still looking for the final recruit - I am not sure who I am missing - there is one empty spot but I thought I had everyone in the group. I still have to do most of their personal missions. As for scanning every planet, not even fucking close. It will be another month before I finish the game. If someone can finish a game like this in a few days or a week, more power to them. I've never understood how it was possible with sleep, work, eating, wife/girlfriend, and everything else - do people really put in 8 hours of gaming a day? I sort of envy people who can do it - I'd like to be able to just say 'fuck everything' and sit for hours of gaming.

The last recruit is Legion...the geth. You meet him on the IFF mission and you won't get to recruit him until after you've completed that specific mission.
It is highly recommended that you complete all the loyalty missions before doing the IFF mission because once you complete it and recruit Legion you'll only have enough time to complete Legion's loyalty mission before you're going off for the final missions.

I have to say that ME2 is much better (and less frustrating) than ME1 in many aspects...especially the fucking loading. In ME1 you could only walk about 30 - 40 metres before being forced into a load but ME2 has pretty much gotten rid of loads entirely (except of course when going down to planets or transporting to loyalty missions) and any loads that do occur are at least 5 times faster than ME1.

Very interested to see where the studio goes from here, how do you follow up something like this?! D:

This game was fucking awesome. Amazingly brutal and well thought out. I'm glad there was a weapon besides the blades I actually used and liked. That worked to break up the monotony. The level design was great. I think the only thing that annoyed me was the constant flying up and down the chain of balance.

YES! The second to last one was especially annoying for me as I kept crashing into stuff. Agreed with the rest of the post, I especially loved the Nemean Cestus. They gave a most satisfying thud when connecting with anything

Aside from the fact I shouldn't have to explain my life to a bunch of muppets on a gaming forum dedicated to a game nobody even plays anymore, I recall it took me about 24 hours or so to beat Mass Effect 2 over 6 or so days. While I find it lovely you care so much about my life gonnaeatya to the point of crying about what some other nerd on a nerds gaming forum does with his spare time, I do have to say that the prospect of 4 hours a night put into one of the best gaming experiences this year to be, at best, hardly anything.

Until I reach cunt hole levels of virginity sitting at my computer desk playing World of Warcraft for 10 hours straight every night and PAYING a monthly fee for the privilege of keeping women away, I think its fair to assume that 4 hours a night for only a few days on a GOOD game is pretty much nothing.

So kindly put down the cake your portly fat hands are likely hanging onto for dear life, grab that useless waste of space that is a head and insert it up your own arse, pronto. The shear fact that you my horizontally challenged friend can even begin to “call me out” on being a nerd on “Quake 3 World” is about as redundant as a chocolate fireguard.

In short, no u.
