Quake 3 1.16 Master List

Oke i found this topic today, i found it with the following search-string "quake 3 1.16n servers" with Google.

I thought i have posted a topic about this issue a while ago (dont remember), now im experiencing the same problem. Sometimes the Master-server is up, sometimes its not.

I have to agree with MajorMudd, there are indeed alot of players still playing 1.16n one of the reasons being some good servers for that point release are online. (xxxtrippleX is one of my favorite)

It really is a mess withing the q3 scene.
there are 7 different Point Release. 3 major popular modifications and then you have the different Quakelive wich i find very disgusting.

I think it is pretty unfair to say that there is not much evolving happening in the Q3 community anymore.
what about QuakeLive then?

One of the reasons for me playing Quake 3 is that i started playing Unreal tournament. i got motivated to start playing this game after watching some very good frag-movies, i had to find my way trough a real jungle, it was very hard for me to find this game, first i was unable to find the game, then i stumbled on Quake-Live i tried it but i found it a very bad experience. it was only about month or so when i was lucky to find the game second hand in a very nice game-store.

Although i might say im pretty seasoned gamer it was not easy for me to get into this game, when finally firing up the game and eager to start playing i couldn't find any servers i had to search the web again and ask around. there was Urban_Terror Osp and Cpma and Quakelive that i had to fight against.
luckily i found Game-tracker and X-fire to help me out to find servers, i also found Q3Switch.exe to change the point release. i got a lot of "this server uses protocol..." errors wen connecting via x-fire or Game-tracker.

Now i'm happy to have a decent server-list in my favorites which i happen to establish through connecting with 3d-party tools and the occasional time the Q3 Master server is working again.
of course it would be a lot easyer if the Master server would function properly and not occasionally.
i would make it alot easyer for new players and regular players alike.

Now not to make my post any longer can you please tell me the name of your server MajorMudd?
i would like to add it to my favorites so i can play on a different server more often.

I'm finding it hard to believe that the in-game Multiplayer Master Server list works. You guys are saying it works off 'n on, but I've never seen it work once. The only way that I've been able to find servers on 1.16n in the past is through "All Seeing Eye"(which is gone), and "PingTool".

regardless if you believe it , it really DOES work now and then.

Just 26 though.. Like vil3 I haven't had any luck when checking for a game in q3.

Btw, what exactly made quake live such a bad experience for you vonnis?

there are alot of reasons, but basicly just because it sucks and its not Quake 3, its a totally different game with different layout. it feels to fancy, not that its a bad game but for me it is an different game and not worth a replacement for Quake 3.

for me quake live goes in the same corner as Steam and Gamespy, Avoid at all costs!

So you only played that first practice match over and over? That problem could be caused by adblock+ in firefox btw, try disabling it for quakelive.com if you have it on. Or just stick with the good old q3 of course, since you do find games from time to time.

lol, that's your excuse for not playing Quake Live? A tiny bug that pops up only during the introduction match?
I'm still not convinced about Quake Live being a completely different game. I dunno, Quake Live just is Quake 3 with some added content and options. I don't see where the problem lies.
