Ordered my first mac today

Odd that despite my comments everyone thinks I had this delusion of the Mac being the embodiment of computing perfection.

But its already shown that it will be nicer to work with than my PC was for photography, the monitor is incredible, and its fast as hell. I like the little things like being able to change color space in my display properties and that it recognized all my raw files and could open them in finder.

I've only used it for a day and while I've found some things I don't care for, overall its been great. The real test will be to see how it runs the windows version of photoshop CS4 in a virtual box based image of my PC. Or maybe if it will run it. That isn't my long term plan for using photoshop either. Adobe wouldn't transfer the CS4 license - but I can buy CS5 for $199 with my discount so I might just do that.

if it's what you're looking for, then the money was worth it. Personally I'd reather build my own for the price of pre-builds ( mac or otherwise ). But I'm a cheap cunt.

I agree about avoiding the prices of pre-builds - I've built every machine I've used for the last 12 or so years - if I was looking for a gaming machine I'd have done the same thing. I bought it because this machine was exactly what I was looking for. And when you figure the price of the Apple 27" display, the i7 processor used in this one, and all the other components, I wouldn't have saved that much building a tower with similar specs.

I've been hearing similar comments from PC users I know around here - everything from "Mac users are just like a cult" to "Software for macs costs twice as much as it does for the PC" to "you know Macs can crash too, don't you??" (I didn't recall ever saying they can't so I wasn't sure what the point was of this one.)

nvm, i think i found the one you bought, it's actually about $450 more for the imac compared to a pc of the same specs. Seems strange to me that apple would do this.

I customized mine a bit. Apple always costs more - I knew I was going to pay more for a Mac, just not as much more as I often hear (twice the price, etc.)

Yea goof this unix based os with full terminal capacity and things like mac pro's running 12 cores are slow simple machines for old folks and this pos 2560 x 1440 display is horrid for photography...
