word. been playing this for the past few hours and it's a blast. i agree about the loading times and menus being a bit wonky. kinda sucks how you have to go all the way to the home screen to get all your race rewards and then also redeem the "tickets" to get the cars.

Oh god, this is like crack. Every time I think I'm getting good, a new challenge unlocks and slaps me around, demanding my complete attention.

Fuck that first Top Gear Track VW Camper Van challenge though. Fuck it right in its ass.

86 average at the moment, mainly because of a few 8/10 reviews from sites like cvg.

I read that review code for this game only came out on Monday. How can anyone expect to review a game the size of GT5 in only 2 days? Way too many journals are concerned more about getting their reviews out first than actually playing a game to completion and discovering all it has to offer. I haven't played GT5, but if its anything like the others, it is a game that demands serious investment to get all it has to offer.

And yeah, 8/10 shouldn't be considered a bad score, but certainly disappointing when 9 seems to be the gold standard in the gaming press.
yeah; no kidding. The game is massive, even if you played 24 hours straight you can't experience more than 20% of the content... but if you want a proper review from car guys playing super long stints read this.

brisk wrote: And thats the point. I find it highly unlikely that you can unlock and drive all the cars in two days. In my experience with GT, all the cars drive VERY differently and your experience in a race (and subsequently the game as a whole) changes drastically depending on the car you are using.
actually one thing they got right adding to this one is you aren't just grinding for cars. As you win shit your driver level increases which opens up more and more hardcore simulation features so the game has the option to get more realistic and difficult as the player gets more "seat time".

People should stop bitching about the UI... Gran Turismo hasn't had a functional UI in any iteration. 1-4... they all sucked in they're own special-ed ways.

After a reboot my game worked fine yesterday. What happened was they released a new patch and took down the servers while we were in game. After I started back up I just hit OK on a few prompts and it let me keep playing.

I completed 17% in under 10 hours yesterday. Would have gotten more but I spent a lot of time on the NASCAR stuff which is fucking next to impossible without a wheel.

Pro-Tip: Complete the level 10 muscle car challenge asap and give the Buick Special '62 a run. The thing is a god damned monster. With a handful of upgrades I've got it hitting 217 mph.

Sorry but this is too sexy to levelshot. Made this using the Photo Travel section which is actually pretty awesome on its own. You pick from unlocked locations and then get full control over where to position the car and your camera within an entire living city block. Then you can tweak all kinds of options on the camera as well as dial in the perfect angle. You can export them to the Photos section of your PS3 and from there you can copy to USB.

Just took this shot of my new 458

What a contrasting difference between two ingame pics... Be sexy when the actual gameplay is like the top shot. Few years off yet.

loving this game.

Busy working on getting all gold on the B and A license tests. It's mostly all silver and bronze right now.

The special events (such as racing the volkswagon buses on topgear) piss me off though.

Also, what's the deal with every A spec race requiring a radically different car from every other race. I dumped like 100k credits in to a civic for laughs and added wings to it then find out I need italian classics, european classics, japanese classics, non-american whatevers, hatchback only, and trucks only. What the hell?

Of all the things about the game that I'm stoked about, I'm super happy that we can finally tune cars again. Prologue was disappointing in that respect.

Just completed all the license tests last night. you'll get a few cars that you can use for the events that are pretty decent. for instance, i got a truck to use in that truck only race from the iB or iA sequence. can't remember which exactly.

i've managed all gold in the B level, all silver up through iB, and then settled for bronze in iA and S. i'd have silver on the iA but the last test (2-lap battle with a Gallardo) is a major pain the ass. the game is pretty sketch on how it decides to disqualify for car bumping. i've been DQ'd for apparently being "too close" as there was no audible thud or vibration from the controller. other times i'll see the computer racers veer off the track, only to then veer back into me causing a DQ. on the flipside i'll occasionally slam into the other cars, fulling expecting a DQ, but the game just rolls with it and keeps on playing.

i also beat the Gran Turismo World Championship event in the pro series and a got a sweet veyron that's painted with two tones of green. FYI, anyone who pre-ordered this from amazon, the stealth mercedes you got can dominate this event. i even have a replay of me flipping the car on its side and still managing to squeek back to first on the last lap :D

oh, and uh, i've been looking for a 2nd gen MR2 and a 4th gen Supra. I've seen them both come up in the used car lot in the past, one time each, but didn't have the funds at the time for either. if you come accross either of these and have the funds and are willing to trade let me know. i have 50+ cars now and enough money in the bank to buy something if I don't already have what you want for trade. yeah. 1 and 2. I dont remember 2 very well but you didn't have to fuck around with being forced to drive crappy cars in 1 from what I remember of it.

(It's part of the fun of the game and driving crappy cars teaches you how to drive good ones)

I beat my buddy who was new to GT4 in a short 2 lap race at Laguna Seca the other day, him in the McLaren F1 GTR and myself in a stock PT Cruiser.

If you whine about driving "crappy cars" I pity you because that's the fun of the game. Just buy some arcade racer.

Pretty sure my point is that I put all of the time and money in to making a car I like even more badass and being told that there was no point in even doing that since it's only good for a single race.

The fun of the game for me is tuning cars and earning sexy new vehicles to tune further. Not being told "oh btw, you have to give up everything you worked for and drive this 45 hp piece of shit hatchback now."

You meant to buy NFS:Underground.

If you work it right you only have to build up to beastly a select few cars. In the case of the civic, I don't have the GT5 races in front of me, but by the GT4 races you'd be able to run:

Sunday Cup (B)
FF(B)
Clubman cup(A)
Tuning Car GP(A)
NA/Turbo depending(A)

Also a few of the Japanese races,
Compact cup
80s/90s depending
Japan Championship

Maybe gt5 is way different but I think your expectations for this game are different that what they were going for.

The first half of your second paragraph is correct, and it's the course you would have taken had you not wasted 100k on a civic early on in the game. You realize you did something stupid then you're whining that the developers didn't set up the game so that a civic could run in most of the races?

-> NFS:U for you

I was never really asking for suggestions from you for alternative games. Apparently you didn't read the very first sentence I wrote in my first post stating how I enjoy GT5 immensely.

By the way, if you're just going to be a cunt stating how you "pity" me and telling me I should just go nab some arcade racer because I'm not creaming myself over every thing GT5 has to offer then you can fuck off.
