I imagine this collecting dust next to everyone's Rock Band drum sets.

Nowhere in those vids does he have both feet off the ground, which is how running is done.
He just looks like a badly animated game character.

95% of video game nurds will be out of breath within the first minute of using one of these, not practical at all.

The main attraction of video games is exactly that you're not required to physically exert yourself to make an impact in a virtual world.
That's why shit like this will never catch on.
If you want to immerse, focus on less physicality instead of more.
3d goggles that track your eye movement. Highly sensitive contollers. That kind of stuff.

What you're talking about is The Matrix vs The Holodeck.

Yeah, I see a "Matrix" like approach of engaging in a virtual reality, where you are stagant in one place, a whole lot more likely than star trek courts set up to allow a physical:virtual 1 on 1 experience.
There's just not enough room.

yeah... i think you're totally wrong. would you not like to play quake or world of warcraft or mirrors edge or god of war in some kind of holodeck?
but i agree with gky: THIS tech is retarded.
ps: you're also wrong for several reasons related to motivational psychology.
pps: the part of your statement really actually refering to motivation is the thing about making an impact on a virtual world. not exerting yourself physically is not a strong motivator compared to other themes (computer) games touch.
