I disagree. I think if they left it out and kept instead the RL, PG, MG, Shotgun (especially), GL and RG (am i missing any) there would be much better balance IMO. Ive seen a lot of high level videos where it seemed like the players would just use the lightning gun as much as possible. In fact the first demo I ever saw of Q3 was one where Julios was playing some folks on DM13 I believe. And in those series of matches, whoever had the lightning gun would pretty much dominate.
I think the shotgun as a short range weapon seems to be a much better fit in terms of balance with the rest of Q3's weapon arsenal.
Anyway, thats what I think. Then again, you were a much better Q3 player than me, Duhard. So maybe Im just talking of my ass but thats the way I saw it.

The LG is rather overpowered in VQ3 (even more so in QW/Q1) and you can indeed dominate the map with it. In CPMA, it's been turned down a notch and that results in a shift to RL and PG. I've never been a fan of the PG since it's mostly a spam weapon; the LG at least requires some skill to use. But I do think iD/Raven will do wise to weaken it a little in Q4.Chupacabra wrote:I disagree. Quake 3 had "such and such" because it was a mix, a balanve of Q1, Q2 and Q3. It was a MP ONLY game and it had to take the best of the rest.
Q2 is a SP AND MP game. So it should follow Quake 2. They are chaning to much on the weapons side of things, why add a lighting gun?
Not to mention it will either look shit, or kill your FPS, in a per pixel engine.

Its true. Why do you think when the archvile in doom 3 causes a big slow down? So, i'm right. Either they make the effect look bad to help frame rate, or willits isn't talking out of his arse for once and it looks good, but kills your frame rate.

Yes, i do. Now i've said i like the sound of the gameplay, ive said i even like the look of it now for the msot part, its aver yattractive game.
