Pop Ups

Post by corpse »

I have XP Pro, SP2 which used to stop pop ups, but for the last month or so I have been getting lots of pop ups. I also have the google toolbar, but they dont seem to work.

Have you run an updated virus scan lately? Also an updated adware scan.

Yep, I use 3 at any given time. Also multiple antivirus programs.

Adaware is good, but Spybot and Microsoft antispyware each catch things the other 2 don't. For AV I use AVG, Norton, Housecall, and Panda. As long as you don't run them at the same time you are much more safe than just using one for each. Out of curiosity, what kind of popups are you getting?

adult finder, casino stuff.

Everytime I come onto this site I get some and everytime I go to MSN.com and click on games or whatever, I get some.

Yep. Javascript can do that, too.

for sh*ts and giggles, try Microsoft's Antispyware. works well and by default runs in real-time.

I have only AVG and Norton installed. And only one of them running at any given time. I use the others for occasional online scans. Same as with the anti spyware, they each catch stuff the others don't.

that's still overkill man. no reason to have so many antivirus apps. if one's not doing it for you, you need to look elsewhere.

Apparently AVG is doing the trick because it's the only one I have running full time and haven't had a virus in quite some time. Iuse the online scans about once a month for shits and giggles. Don't even remember the last time I opened up Norton.
