Bleh @ jdra4map1.pk4 Did nobody point the mapper at my rant above? :( Also, wtf are maps doing in the q4max dir, that should only be used for q4max specific files, and there are no q4max specific maps. All maps belong in q4base unless they can only be used with that mod. Maybe the non-q4base dirs ne...

Agreed on convincing everyone to upgrade. I wish server admins werent still running q4max 0.73 + q4 1.1, but they are. Punishing the players for lazy / unobservant admins isnt the solution though. Plenty of admins wont notice you've released a final version, and it'll just mean there are more server...

I see no reason to delete any files, except for those that are corrupt. You cannot be sure that servers have taken the old version down, and if you remove it then you'll stop people being able to connect. If you're planning on releasing an updated version, and thats why you want to replace an existi...

1.3 kinda broke vertex lighting - you'll find that sometimes it turns lights back on again. This is why the menus were updated to set use r_forceAmbient instead of r_vertexlight. If you're using r_forceAmbient 0, you've probably got realtime lighting on, even if you have r_vertexlight 1. (The q4max ...

Gamespys stats page doesnt take account of the 1.3 servers as they need to update it to work with the new protocol - thats why its dropped off the bottom. I noticed the same when 1.2 came out until they updated it. I dunno whether they can perhaps only show one protocol at once - if so, the stats ar...

I dont think RTCW:ET was supposed to be free, and certainly the q4 1.3 patch wasnt either.... they do however know enough about things to know when they should cut their losses and accept that they arent gunna make money on something, so might as well give it away for free rather than slaving away f...

I wonder how someone comes to the point where (s)he's a professional at at modding games, when he or she isn't getting payed to do that. Really, how'd that happen? : \ Ummm... Maybe you should re-read the statement: I can hardly believe it is because they are better coders then professionals...? No...

I can hardly believe it is because they are better coders then professionals...? You're making the assumption we're not professionals too.... coding has been my day job for quite a while now, and arQon even longer. Not sure how long qrealka has been at it, but I'm pretty sure coding is his day job ...

Na, its not us, and I'm pretty sure its not xbm or any other mod team. SyncError said its effectively a missionpack (TA style - or at least the beginnings of one?) but given for free - which means its most likely another commercial games company who were commissioned to create the content. Note that...

The point releases for Windows and Linux both ship: game000.pk4 <-- windows game100.pk4 <-- linux game200.pk4 <-- mac This implies that you can play against a mac. I believe the Mac now has v1.2, and so almost certainly has the same 3 files as the win+lin builds, so shouldnt have any issues. However...

Re bots, it may be because the map hasnt been clipped in a suitable way for bots. The techniques that applied to Q3 mapping still apply to Q4, even though it doesnt ship with bots.

That is true, but sometimes routers are too clever for their own good, and depending on how the software is written its possible to break NAT. See this (in depth) post about an issue with Q4 + master server comms (server issue, so not the one in this thread) - http://www.forumplanet.com/planetquake/...

1.2 may only be a few lines different, but 0.74 is more than a few lines different, and we need to make sure everything that was partially complete at the point that id released 1.2 is actually finished off completely. Having your release schedule dictated by someone elses release schedule isnt good...
