Re: RtCW for Linux freezes up (sound-related)

So the game tries to write to memory it doesn't have access to. That, or the pointer to it is invalid. Hmm, that may be what is happening when I use the soundcard too (ltrace shows it looping on memset([0xff8012fc|0xff80150c], '\000', 284) after freezing up). I'm afraid you may very well be out of ...

Re: RtCW for Linux freezes up (sound-related)

what version of RtCW? Latest patch: 1.41. I'll add that and some other details to my initial post. Blind suggestions: Try onboard sound I doubt that it's the sound driver's fault (it's open source, and Creative hasn't touched it :D), but that did produce a different result: When I try to load a sav...

RtCW for Linux freezes up (sound-related)

I recently decided to play through the RtCW single player campaign again (I never finished it). It was all smooth sailing... until I got to the catacombs. For some reason, it keeps freezing up whenever the flame sound from the flamethrower plays (usually after a few seconds). The audio loops continu...

It's not that they where forgotten by anyone here, it's just that those mods have no servers. Er, he's including "offline" mods as well with the "Best of." Besides, popularity is not indicative of quality. :p Really, it's not feasible to put together something "robust enoug...

Okay, thanks for the suggestions and links. Here's what I've found so far: For Q1, Darkplaces seems to be the best client for Linux right now (though ezQuake might be worth looking into). JoeQuake and Qrack look nice too, but there are no Makefiles (so I can't easily build them), and no Linux builds...

Hmm, that's a good starting point, but it's a bit obsolete. For instance, it doesn't include fitzQuake, Qrack, r1Q2, etc. I'll just dig around, I guess.

So I just picked up Ultimate Quake ...

I just picked up Ultimate Quake for Q1 and Q2 (having a third Q3 key doesn't hurt, either). Now, I haven't played Q1 nor Q2 since the late '90s, and I'm wondering about the things that I have missed. I'm looking for opinions on: The best single player clients for Q1 and Q2. The best multiplayer clie...

Try a clean install with linuxq3apoint-1.32b-2.x86.run and copy ONLY pak0.pk3 into baseq3. If that resolves the purity issue, then it was probably being caused by some map that you copied over.

BTW, you might receive better help over at some Spanish forum, such as this one (Linuxforo).

Argh, that crap really kills Firefox. Anyways... If you're using a recent ioQ3, then that's probably the random key generated by tjw's cl_guid feature . A hash is made of that file and sent to every server for identification purposes. The feature was originally for Tremulous, since tjw doesn't like ...

Nah, just a bit annoyed today; sorry. It's good that Schwarzenegger is standing up to Bush and company, but really we need far more people to do so as well, and for more reasons.

Re: Linux & Games

Well, since I really don't have too much of an income, I was going to use Linux for a pc that I would build my self. Question is though, could I install the windows versions of my games that are supported on Linux? Specifically, Quake 1- 3, UT99, Unreal 1, Ut2k4, Tribes 2, and Doom 3. There are nat...

I still own the original magnetic media (aka floppies) for KQ1 and KQ6 ... but the bits are probably scrambled by now. :(

As for this remake, no workie in wine and no Linux port = teh lose. I might try my luck with some AGI reimplementation some day.

Meh. I tried really hard to like UT2004, even reinstalling it several times. Sadly, every mod except for Red Orchestra died for lack of players.
