net_serverSnapshotDelay

Can rgoer or someone in the know comment on any potential issues with running this higher than stock?

Also is there any reason why the ping readout in game is so unstable?

er... and by higher you mean lower right?

lower = better server response, more intense on the hardware & bandwidth
higher = crap

I'm running mine at 30 i think the default was 80... performance got so much better when i set it to 30. + pings went down :o too low though and the server started to choke and the pings read 0 at all times
...at least thats what i found.

It's the rate the server sends out snapshots. The higher you set it, the more snapshots have to be constructed on the server, which means more CPU utilization. You'll also need more bandwidth to handle the extra traffic.

net_serverSnapshotDelay - delay between snapshots in milliseconds

So the higher it is, the fewer snapshots, I would think.

That makes sense.

So this is for server side only?
So what are the respective snaps/maxpackets etc commands for Q4?

As far as I've been able to find, there isn't anything that correlates to snaps or cl_maxpackets for Q4; only a rate setting.

Doesn't 80ms delay seem too high to be default? That would only be about 12 snapshots per second. Seems pretty low. If that is the case then maybe we can get some good performance boost from lowering this.

Q3's default snapshot rate is 20. I'm guessing because of extra things bolted onto the game the amount of data per snapshot is gonna be more than Q3 for a given situation.

Especially with the hyperblaster :D

perhaps its dynamicly scales?

the longer the delay, the large the snapshot so there for smaller delay = a more even and steady flow ?
