Think of it like this (when silver says the character types are way overdone): How else is Cameron going to match everything else in the movie... everything in it is 10x more than normal (size, language, etc)

I saw Avatar last night.
The story, while long, doesn't feel like it's dragging on. It's basically "Dances With Wolves" so no real fault there. The 3D effect - IMHO - didn't really change anything for me. What I mean is that the movie was visually stimulating but it didn't have to be 3D in order to be entertaining....the 3D simply added to the experience. However, some shots with fast-moving elements were basically ruined by the 3D effect and several shots with foreground elements left me wondering what part of the frame I should be focusing on.
All in all, a decent film that isn't entirely original in any sense but is engaging throughout and has probably one of the highest quality effects of any movie in a long while. The cinematography and audio were very well done which simply made the entire package a worthwhile movie to spend $20 at a theatre.
But this movie is in no way, shape or form the "revolutionary" film the hype said it would be (fuck u go0f)...which was the whole point of this thread...at least for me. I already wish every PR and marketing person on this planet would simultaneously die a horrific death, and at the end of the day all the hoopla for this film did was reinforce that POV.

Because James Cameron was an engineer who decided to become a special effects guru back in the 70s and he is the one who wrote the story.
Feedback. Could he ask for any details about how the final cut of the film was rendered? Number of machines, specs, etc. And the obvious one, how many other movies are planned for Pandora?

I can answer in a round-about way; several post houses in London were given segments of the film to render as far as I know. At least one of those companies was MPC on Wardour Street. I'm not familiar with their effects machines as we mainly support their edit suites and SAN.

Cool, thanks. That was actually the first thing I wondered when I heard it was being released this winter. I had just read about how it took 50 hours to render each frame and then the next thing you know there's a release date. Terminator 2 is an absolutely perfect movie IMO and tell him he is the tip of the spear as far as pushing the next big things in movies
