Re: blue screen after installing XP
[quote="Mox"]Obsidian, I dont think he has 'em. As for Sata drivers, I thought WinXP loads em right away? I was able to install my XP straight without having to fool around the Sata drivers. This is determined by the motherboard, not the OS. All new motherboards have sata drivers built in,...

Re: Can't Boot
As far as I know, XP is the first OS that does this. If that is your problem, however, you will get the BSOD. That is blue screen of death. If not familiar with it, when you try to load windows you will see a dark blue screen filled with white writing saying things like memory dump, etc. In some cas...

Re: Can't Boot
The fix mbr option is off of the repair xp as you have been told above. Trying to remember here.....go to the option using command prompt [part way into the repair xp stuff] and simply type in fix mbr and hit enter. I think this is right. Just type fix mbr into google and you will see results relate...

Re: Can't Boot
At this point when you turn your computer on does it take awhile to do things or is it almost instant. As when you go into bios. Does it go there right away or is there a long pause. A long pause would indicate failing hard drive, cdrom drive, etc. If so, unplug all cables to all devices and start c...

Try googling Symantec and see what happens. You may want to re-write this or go to Walmart and buy a brain.

Norton BO Back
I have a computer in front of me that people have not used in months because they were away. Worked fine when they left and shut it down. When computer is turned on now, it says computer is protected by Norton Go Back...press space bar to repair problems or see other boot options. Pressing space or ...

Those temps sound fine.
P4's run much hotter than the new stuff, but like we said 58c is nothing

Re: Processor and mobo temps
Without knowing which cpu you have or which game you are playing, it's hard to say.
58c is not overly hot when playing a game like Quake which puts a lot of stress on the system.

Re: SATA bullshit
just reading your motherboard manual on page 2-27, there's a bit about setting the ide mode to "compatibility mode" (for legacy oses) vs. enhanced mode (for modern oses). make sure enhanced mode is set, as the compatibility mode seems to disable drives to make things work in windows me. t...

I know this doesnt help much, but I have the same problem sometimes. Usually if I enter BIOS, save and exit it will boot fine......although at times I have to do this several times before it works. Sometimes Bios shows no drives attached, except for cd/dvd drives. After several tries, it will show t...

Re: Looking for PC Diagnosis software.
No it's not, and not really. Checking the mb first would be more like tearing the engine apart to look at the crank shaft if it won't turn over. Start with the little things and work your way to the bigger stuff. Everyone knows that. How many computers have you built?.....or worked on in a professi...

That's like changing your oil filter because your car won't start.

Re: Looking for PC Diagnosis software.
What motherboard? I had similar symptoms with an Asus SLI board about 6 months ago until it finally stopped posting altogether. Mobo was the last thing I tried and it turned out to be the culprit. Why would the motherboard be the last thing you would check? On a new system, if you get the BSOD, it'...

Re: Flash problem
As I understand, you have a table. You have several "content" objects approximately 120x130, in various cells. You have one object that is 550x400, in its own cell. Your question is, "How do I adjust the size of the movie?". Is that right? If yes... this is an extremely obtuse wa...

Re: Cant delete a Folder ( NTFS )
Unless I've misread this, you don't take ownership by clicking properties. Try booting into safe mode and then try to take ownership that way. Right click on folder, click sharing and security, then click security, then advanced, then click the owner tab.

It's the PSU. I'm posting from the computer right now. Put in a weak 350W PSU from another computer and it's working fine. But since it doesn't have a SATA plug, my D drive is non-existent until I buy a new PSU. But I am certainly breathing a HUGE sigh of relief at the fact that it's only the PSU. ...

Does the computer boot [partially] and stay on with the monitor light staying yellow, or does the computer shut down and restart in a loop as it were. Can't see checking your CMOS, but that's over and done. Agree with Tormentius........plug in a new PSU and see what happens. Have you checked the mot...
