Re: a trip through my maps dir. 2008-present
You are fucking great at detailing your maps. And now you're saying it bores you? Unfortunately, boredom is not a choice. It's something that happens. Also, as he said, what's the point, really? He's not getting paid for it and q3 is such old tech that it's not exactly the best thing to show off in...

Re: a trip through my maps dir. 2008-present
fkd, you have a really nice, "fine-grain" aesthetic to your work. It's all really unique, especially the interior spaces. Don't be afraid to revisit your maps that you put aside either due to boredom or poor planning/execution. Panopticon which I recently released (now on lvl) went through...

Re: New Stuff for You
I used 90-99. I changed the fov depending on the shot and the effect I was trying to create. The slower moving shots use a lower fov, while the faster shots use a higher fov for added "punch".Bliccer wrote:Which fov did you use btw?

Re: New Stuff for You
Thanks for the feedback guys and a good smack in the ass. You guys are right, the repetitiveness of the orginal demo reel is annoying. So I have fixed it. I have used an entirely new song and I think it works a lot better now. Please view the new reel here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxftURfAG_A...
Re: Endarchy
I think its funny as hell that Tigger has only 9 posts on this forum... considering such the seminal figure that he is too our community! What gives Tig?
Congrats on finishing Endarchy, it looks really cool. Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of d3 anymore.

Re: New Stuff for You
How do you get the POV camera to twist like that??? Most likely, it's done with the Q3MME mod . Yep. q3mme. Awesome little program/mod. You can do a bunch of cool things with it, I recommend checking it out. It's really simple to use also. Well, maybe I should say, simple to learn, difficult to mas...

Re: New Stuff for You
not meaning to be a punt, but in its current form its boring to watch... could be the effect of the music? i dunno. (being honest) Yea, I was wondering about that too. Since I worked on it so much, the whole thing kinda lost meaning after awhile and I wasn't sure if it was cool or just... redundant...

made a video
Video: http://www.vimeo.com/20901360 Well, I guess its about that time of year again... when I drop into these forums... write a post or two... then vanish again. So this time, I made a little video showing some of the q3 maps that I made, back in the day. I had a lot of fun making this video, and i...

Re: looking for a 3d designer
In addition to what the others said above, you need to create something in order to inspire people to work on your project. If people cannot get any information about your project, people are not going to be excited about your project, and therefore you will not get any help. This is Pyschology 101....

Re: My documentary again.
Thanks for the ideas guys.
Reading your posts fired off some synapses upstairs and helped me think of some things in a broader context about this documentary and it's overarching theme. I appreciate that more than you'd realize, so thanks.
Well, time to get cracking.

My documentary again.
Hey guys, I'm back again with my documentary idea about level designers. I put together a tiny website in support of this project. http://www.theleveldesigners.com I'm trying to figure out if I can make a go of this project. A major challenge I have at the moment is finding good stories to tell. I b...

Re: The Life and Worlds of a Level Designer
I assumed (and still do) the documentary is about solo mappers, where the mapping process and decisions made are not *as* cerebral/controlled as in pro environments, and the stakes are not as high. Correct. In other words, I hope it will not be a tutorial on how to map, but what kind of people mapp...

Re: The Life and Worlds of a Level Designer
Will your documentary cover the negative aspects of the profession? For overall "balance". Well, that wasn't my original intention. Being that I am just an amatuer filmmaker, at best, I was intending on sticking just to the hobbyist side of level design. I'm intending on making a simple, ...

The Life and Worlds of a Level Designer
I hope I don't catch too much flak for breaking this out into a seperate thread from other thread of the same concept. But here goes: Some of you know I want to make a documentary about level designers. Some of you voiced concerns that I didn't have a premise or script to follow and therefore I was ...

The state of level design
I haven't really been following all the ins and outs of the hobby and profession of level design like I was a few years ago. I'm wondering what the current state of level design is like. Note, I am wondering what the overall general state is, not just q3 specific. Some questions: 1) Can hobbyists st...

Re: Documentary about mappers
As far as script is concerned, I'm still trying to put it together. There are two things that I am focusing on in these initial stages. 1) I am trying to talk to as many mappers as I can over the internet one-on-one to determine the overall "identity of a mapper". I already have a good ide...

Any documentary that you are inspired from, I mean, format wise that one might catch somewhere on the net... is it more like Pirates of Silicon Valley or like Koyaanisqatsi, which are both docs but totaly different. Similar in style to Pirates of Silicon Valley. Even though Pirates of Silicon Valle...

Re: Looking for experienced mapper to complete my masterpiece.
So why not just finish it yourself? Seriously, short on time, and too much going on in RL is a fair excuse, if that's the case, but...hell...just spend a couple of hours once a week and it would be done in a couple of months at most. Last time I opened Radiant was about 3 years ago, and I j...

Looking for experienced mapper to complete my masterpiece.
Hey guys... back from RL. I posted this youtube video today to showcase all the maps I've made for Quake3. But this thread is not about the video itself but about one of the unfinished maps shown at the end of the video. Search the video from 2:40 to 3:11 to see this map called "Bombastic"...
