Yes, it's a bad idea for both the GPU and CPU. Best thing is to leave it idle for a couple of minutes. My Enermax PSU has a function to fix this, the fans keep spinning for at least 2 minutes (temperature controlled) to create airflow.

HDMI -> DVI HDMI is Digital only, wile DVI is both digital and Analog. So that is why you can convert DVA to VGA.. Not really true. You can only convert DVI to VGA with an (simple) adapter if it is DVI-I. My guess is you can only create DVI-D from a HDMI source. So the above will not work with the ...

Sidenote: The E6700 isn't quadcore, but it rocks hard anyway. One of the best CPUs you van get ATM IMHO.
